The Himalaya
Northern Himalayas – mountain hiking in India
At the upper reaches of the Ganges, along the surely most impressive mountain range on earth, the Himalayas, you will find a different India: small mountain villages, lots of nature, impressive hiking tours between bizarre rocky landscapes and interesting vegetation. Especially during the rhododendron bloom, many mountain slopes are covered by a pink veil of flowers. Or a multi-day tour to the source of the Ganges – along a wonderful glacier world!
Golden Temple in Amritsar and other cultural highlights
On the journey from Delhi to the Himalayas you should not miss to visit the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the holiest of the Sikhs. Or the city of Chandigarh, designed by world famous architect Le Corbusier.
Dalai Lama and Dharamsala
You can experience Tibetan culture in Dharamsala and with a little luck also one of the prayers of the Dalai Lama. The probably most holy and at the same time oldest Hindu temples are located high up in the Himalayas. From May to July, Indians go there on pilgrimage. This is a very special experience.
Pleasant temperatures – a bath in Ganges/ Ganga
In summer are the temperatures very pleasant. And what would be unthinkable in Vārānasi, at the foot of the Himalayas it is a nice change: a bath in the holy river. Here is the water clean and fresh. This is possible in Haridwar and Rishikesh.
Individual accommodation in the mountains
In the few larger cities there are good hotels. On the countryside these are rather smaller accommodations with a lot of local charm. I would be happy to show you these inconspicuous but clean homestays. Breakfast on a terrace with a view over a quiet mountain valley – that’s where the day can start.
Classical routes in the Himalayas
The Himalaya is not accessible all year round. This must be considered. In spring, nature with its sea of flowers is in the foreground, autumn brings clear hiking weather. In summer it can rain heavily, winter is very cold and snowy.
